Why am I seeing echocardiogram reports from Intellispace Cardiology (ISCV)?

ISCV echocardiogram reports are sent to eChart through Manitoba’s Radiology Information Systems (RIS) feed. The table below outlines when ISCV Reports became available in eChart and the facilities the reports are sent from. Only echocardiogram orders from these facilities will be sent to ISCV reporting and displayed in eChart.

ISCV Report  Date Available  Facilities
Pediatrics  February 28, 2023  Health Sciences Centre, St. Boniface Hospital
Adult OR  March 1, 2023  St. Boniface Hospital
NICU  April 11, 2023  Health Sciences Centre, St. Boniface Hospital
Adult Echo  October 17, 2023  Health Sciences Centre, St. Boniface Hospital, Grace Hospital, Selkirk General Hospital
Echocardiogram reports will appear under the Cardiology (CAR) modality in the Imaging List Pane.

Are new ISCV reports also sending via eHealth_hub?

Do all diagnostic imaging (DI) reports completed in the province display in eChart?

There are 2 Radiology Information System (RIS) sources in eChart:

  1. Manitoba’s Radiology Information System (RIS), which is the provincial RIS
    • Diagnostic imaging reports from Manitoba’s RIS display in eChart from November 3, 2011 onward.
  2. Prairie Mountain Health (PMH) DI reports
    • Diagnostic imaging reports from PMH DI reports display in eChart from December 4, 2016 onward.

In addition to the DI report, those who have the appropriate access role will also be able to view the set of images (Study) associated with the DI report via the PACS Web Viewer (PWV).

I am provisioned with PACS Web Viewer access but when I click on the View STUDY link, I do not see an image. Why?

  • If PWV is down or unavailable, you will see this error message:
  • The study is not available for one of the following reasons:
  • a) Not every DI report has a corresponding image. A set of images (study) may have multiple exam codes, causing the same report to display for each exam code. However, there may not be a corresponding image linked to each report. In this case, the following error message will display:
  • b) The image has not yet been sent to eChart. Images associated with PMH DI reports are sent to eChart one calendar day after the corresponding DI report. This is because eChart receives images from PMH DI reports in nightly batches. In this case, the following error message will display:
  • Your session has timed out or there is an access error:

*Mammograms from this site have been available in eChart since May 2016.

Only DI exams performed at facilities connected to Manitoba’s RIS display in eChart.

**NOTE: DI reports from Dr. C. W. Wiebe Medical Centre are NOT currently available in eChart

Facilities not connected to Manitoba’s RIS are:

  • Private facilities that use a different type of Radiology Information System other than Manitoba’s RIS
  • Facilities associated only with cancer screening (e.g., BreastCheck, CervixCheck, ColonCheck)

What facilities are connected to the PMH DI reports?

Only DI exams performed at facilities connected to PMH DI reports display in eChart.

Facilities connected to PMH DI reports:

  1. Tri-Lake Health Centre

What types of DI exams from Manitoba’s RIS are found in eChart?

Diagnostic Imaging refers to any type of procedure performed by a radiologist or a radiology technologist and done with the following modalities:

  • Angiography (AN)
  • Cardiology (CAR)
    • For example, echocardiograms
  • Computed Tomography (CT)
  • Fluoroscopy (FL)
  • Magnetic Resonance (MR)
  • Nuclear Medicine (NM)
  • Positron Emission Tomography (PT)
  • X-ray (XR)
  • Mammography (MA)
  • Ultrasound (US)
  • Fetal Assessment (FA) (HSC) only

Therefore, only DI exams that fall into one of the above modalities will be found in the provincial RIS.

What types of DI exams from PMH DI reports are found in eChart?

Diagnostic Imaging refers to any type of procedure performed by a radiologist or a radiology technologist and done with the following modalities:

  • Angiography (AN)
  • Cardiology (CAR)
    • For example, Holter
  • Computed Tomography (CT)
  • Fluoroscopy (RF)
  • Magnetic Resonance (MR)
  • Nuclear Medicine (NM)
  • X-ray (CR)
  • Mammography (MG)
  • Bone Density (BD) (NOTE: BD do not have any reports tied to them in PMH DI reports)
  • Ultrasound (US)
  • Fetal Assessment (FA)

NOTE: echocardiograms are found under Ultrasound modality

Therefore, only DI exams that fall into one of the above modalities will be found in PMH DI reports.

What types of procedures or DI exams from Manitoba’s RIS are not found in eChart?

Procedures or DI exams not found in Manitoba’s RIS and therefore not in eChart are:

  • Bone Mineral Densitometry/Bone Density (BD) exams
    • These exams fall under a program not connected to MB RIS
  • Screening DI exams
    • Outside of the current scope with no current mechanism to bring into Manitoba’s RIS
  • Endoscopy (e.g. standard colonoscopy / sigmoidoscopy, enteroscopy, bronchoscopy)
    • Not a DI procedure because it does not fall into one of the DI modalities (see above for the modalities)
    • Performed by a medical specialist (such as a gastroenterologist or respiratory specialist) and not a radiologist or a radiology technologist
    • Note: the CT Virtual Colonoscopy (CT) and Percutaneous Cecostomy / Colonoscopy (FL) are included in Manitoba’s RIS because:
      • They fall under the DI Imaging procedure modalities (CT and FL respectively)
      • Are performed by a radiologist or a radiology technologist
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG / ECG)
    • Not a DI procedure because it does not fall into one of the DI modalities (see above for the modalities)
    • Outside of the current scope for RIS with no current mechanism to bring into Manitoba’s RIS

What types of procedures or DI exams from PMH DI reports are not found in eChart?

Procedures or DI exams not found in PMH DI reports and therefore not in eChart are:

  • Endoscopy (e.g. standard colonoscopy / sigmoidoscopy, enteroscopy, bronchoscopy)
    • Outside of the current scope for PMH DI reports
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG / ECG)
  • Not a DI procedure because it does not fall into one of the DI modalities (see above for the modalities)
  • Outside of the current scope but PMH DI reports will be looking to have these in the near future

Will only completed and dictated tests display in eChart?

Only reports which have been dictated, validated, and electronically signed by a Radiologist will display in eChart. Reports will display as “Final” or if an addendum has been done to provide additional clinical information the report will display as “Corrected.”

Note: It is possible that there are multiple addendums within the report, so be sure to note the dates and times of any amendments.

Why do I sometimes see an “Ordered” folder containing exam names, but there is no corresponding report displaying for the exam name?

The only time an exam name displays in an “Ordered” folder is a) when a report has been posted to the incorrect patient or b) there is an error in the report that cannot be corrected by the source therefore the report needs to be removed in eChart.

When an error of this type has been identified, the “Ordered” folder appears containing the exam name. However, the report is removed and the status of the report is displayed as:

  • “REPORT REMOVED: The report was sent with the wrong patient demographics”, if it is from Manitoba’s RIS.
  • “REPORT REMOVED – Correct report has been distributed”, if it is from PMH DI reports.

If you have access to PACS, you will still be able to view the erroneous report within the PACS application.

Why do multiple exam names display with the same date and time, and the report is the same?

Depending upon the location and the type of imaging exam being performed, multiple exam codes may be required by RIS to complete one request. This causes the same report to be displayed for each exam code.
